As a Japanese woman, I find her attitude deeply embarrassing. Many of us do. I feel sick every time I see her on the news — not just this time. I also have complicated feelings about sharing the same identity as a Japanese woman with her. I believe her behavior has been shaped by Japan’s strong patriarchy, but not all Japanese women behave like her. The fact that she has been doing this for so long, and still continues, leaves me feeling powerless. I imagine she couldn’t have survived in the LDP without that attitude. I have been strongly hoping the LDP loses power.
